Its population has grown to roughly 5,900, reflecting its place at the edge of the Killeen–Fort Cavazos military community, one of the largest installations in the United States Army. The town has a long but modest history. After its population fell to around fifty inhabitants in the 1950s, Nolanville revived in the 1960s and incorporated in 1966 with about 200 residents and six businesses. By the later 1960s, it was caught up in the expansion of the Killeen–Fort Cavazos area, a dynamic that has continued to shape its growth ever since. Interstate 14 / U.S. Highway 190, a four-lane freeway, passes directly through Nolanville, leading east about eight miles to Interstate 35 in Belton and west about thirteen miles to the Fort Cavazos entrance. This corridor makes the city a practical home base for military families, civilian defense workers, and commuters to Killeen, Belton, and Temple. Public school students attend the Killeen Independent School District, with campuses in Nolanville including Richard E. Cavazos Elementary School. The community offers a suburban-rural mix, with most residents owning their homes and a population of families and young professionals drawn to the Central Texas job market. The city's steady growth has brought newer housing and services while it retains a more relaxed, less congested character than its larger neighbors. With its position between the military post and the I-35 corridor, Nolanville combines a quieter residential setting with quick access to the region's major employers, schools, and services, making it an increasingly established address in the Killeen–Temple area.
