Canal-Front Village on West Bay

Rentals in Tiki Island, TX

Welcome to Tiki Island, a man-made canal community on Galveston West Bay where nearly every home fronts the water and Galveston Island is minutes away.

Tiki Island is a small incorporated village in Galveston County, Texas, occupying a largely man-made island in the shallow waters between the Texas mainland and Galveston Island. The community was created in the 1960s when developers dredged a series of canals and used the excavated fill to elevate the low-lying land to between four and ten feet above sea level. What began as a modest fishing camp grew into a collection of weekend and full-time homes, and the Village of Tiki Island formally incorporated on August 30, 1982. Today the village is home to roughly 1,100 residents. The defining feature of Tiki Island is its canal system. The dredged waterways wind through the community so that nearly every lot touches the water, offering private boat access to Galveston West Bay and, beyond it, the Gulf of Mexico. Street names carry a Polynesian theme, reinforcing the island's coastal identity, and an active homeowners association, the Tiki Island Civic Association, helps maintain the community's amenities and character. Tiki Island functions as a relaxed coastal suburb. The population skews toward homeowners and includes a significant share of retirees, and the atmosphere is quiet and water-oriented rather than commercial. Because the island was engineered from marsh and bay, daily life is closely tied to the bay's fishing and boating culture, and many residents keep boats at their docks. While the village itself has limited retail, its position on Interstate 45 places the beaches, restaurants, and attractions of Galveston a short drive to the southeast and downtown Houston within roughly a forty-five-to-sixty-minute commute to the northwest. For boaters, anglers, and anyone seeking a waterfront address on the upper Texas coast, Tiki Island occupies a distinctive niche.
