South Texas I-35 Small Town

Farms & Ranches in Lytle, TX

Welcome to Lytle, a three-county city on Interstate 35 southwest of San Antonio, founded as an 1882 railroad station and still close to the city.

Lytle is a small city in South Central Texas whose boundaries extend across three counties: Atascosa, Bexar, and Medina. It sits along Interstate 35 roughly 23 to 25 miles southwest of downtown San Antonio, making it one of the closer rural communities to the metro area's southwest edge. The city's main street is Texas State Highway 132, which follows the route of the old U.S. Highway 81. The community traces its roots to 1882, when Lytle Station was established on the International-Great Northern Railroad. The town was named for John T. Lytle, a rancher and cattle-trail driver who secured the land for the railroad stop after a neighboring landowner refused to sell to the rail company. Lytle grew from that railroad-era beginning, serving the surrounding ranching and agricultural countryside, and incorporated as a city in 1951. Today Lytle is a small, family-oriented community of about 2,900 residents. It is served by the Lytle Independent School District, whose Pirates teams are a focal point of local life, and the town retains a recognizable small-town identity centered on its main street. The town's housing ranges from older in-town homes to custom residences on multi-acre lots and newer subdivisions, reflecting its appeal to buyers seeking space and a quieter setting. Lytle's defining advantage is its location. Residents enjoy country living and larger properties while remaining a short Interstate 35 drive from San Antonio's employment, shopping, medical, and cultural amenities. As growth pushes outward from San Antonio's southwest side, Lytle's blend of small-town identity, acreage, and direct highway access positions it as an increasingly practical choice for commuters, families, and those seeking a rural lifestyle close to a major Texas city.
