Three-County Crossroads

About Cresson, TX

Welcome to Cresson, a small city at the meeting point of Hood, Johnson, and Parker counties, on U.S. 377 southwest of Fort Worth.

Cresson is a city in Texas located at the corners of three counties — Hood, Johnson, and Parker — making it a distinctly positioned small community at the intersection of U.S. Highway 377 and State Highway 171, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Worth. U.S. 377 runs northeast to Fort Worth and southwest roughly 12 miles to Granbury, the Hood County seat, while State Highway 171 extends northwest toward Weatherford and beyond. The town's origins reach back to the late 19th century, when the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway was built through the area in 1887 on its way to Granbury, anchoring Cresson as a small rail and agricultural settlement. For most of its history, Cresson remained a tiny, unincorporated community, recording a population of only about 200 as recently as 1990 and 2000. That changed with the growth of the Fort Worth region. Cresson incorporated in 2001, and its population climbed from 741 in 2010 to about 1,349 by the 2020 census — a reflection of the area's expansion as the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex pushed southwest along the U.S. 377 corridor. The city's three-county location gives it a distinctive civic identity, with city limits extending into Hood, Johnson, and Parker counties. Cresson is served by the Granbury Independent School District; the town's own school consolidated with Granbury schools in 1967, and students now attend Granbury ISD campuses. That connection to Granbury extends beyond education — the county seat's historic downtown square and Lake Granbury, a Brazos River reservoir, provide the nearest shopping, dining, and recreation. For residents, Cresson offers a small-town, semi-rural home base at a highway crossroads, with direct access to Fort Worth for employment and urban amenities and to the Granbury and Lake Granbury area for leisure. Its recent growth has added new housing and a family-oriented character while preserving the open, countryside feel of its location where three counties meet.

City Guide

About Cresson

Real Estate & Housing

Cresson's housing reflects its recent incorporation and rapid growth. The city offers a mix of newer single-family subdivisions and rural properties with acreage across its three-county footprint, with the U.S. 377 and State Highway 171 corridors shaping development. Since incorporating in 2001, Cresson has grown quickly — its population roughly doubled between 2010 and 2020 — as the Fort Worth area expanded southwest, and new construction has followed. Buyers are drawn by the combination of highway access to Fort Worth, proximity to Lake Granbury, and the availability of larger lots and open space compared to the core metro area.

Neighborhoods

Cresson is a small, spread-out city organized around the U.S. 377 and State Highway 171 crossroads, with residential development extending along the surrounding roads and into the three counties that meet at the city. The town functions largely as a single community rather than a set of named districts, with newer subdivisions and rural acreage properties mixing across its footprint. Its unusual three-county location means neighborhoods can fall within Hood, Johnson, or Parker counties, which affects local services and taxes. Granbury to the southwest and the growing Fort Worth suburbs to the northeast frame the area's residential character.

Lifestyle in Cresson

Cresson offers small-town living at a convenient crossroads between Fort Worth and Granbury. The city's location where Hood, Johnson, and Parker counties meet gives it a unique local identity, and its position on U.S. Highway 377 means both the Fort Worth metroplex and the Lake Granbury area are a short drive away. Residents enjoy the quiet of the surrounding countryside and the growing, family-oriented character of a recently incorporated city, while Granbury's historic square and lake recreation supply nearby leisure and services. For those who work in Fort Worth but prefer a smaller, more rural home base, Cresson is a practical middle ground.

Schools & Education

Cresson is served by the Granbury Independent School District, based in Granbury. The town's own school consolidated with Granbury schools in 1967, and students now attend Granbury ISD's elementary, middle, and high school campuses in the Granbury area. The district serves the wider Granbury and Lake Granbury region and is the educational anchor for Cresson families. For higher education, residents are within reach of Weatherford College and Tarleton State University, with the universities of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex accessible via the U.S. 377 corridor.

Getting Around

Cresson's transportation is defined by its position at the intersection of U.S. Highway 377 and State Highway 171. U.S. 377 runs northeast about 25 miles to Fort Worth, connecting the city to the metroplex's employment and services, and southwest about 12 miles to Granbury, the Hood County seat. State Highway 171 extends northwest toward Weatherford, and the surrounding farm-to-market roads serve the rural three-county area. This crossroads location makes Cresson a convenient base for commuters, with Fort Worth, Granbury, and the wider North Texas highway network all within a short drive.

Parks & Recreation

Recreation around Cresson centers on Lake Granbury, a Brazos River reservoir located a short drive away in Granbury. The lake supports boating, fishing, swimming, and waterfront recreation, with parks and marinas along its shores. Granbury's historic downtown square adds shopping, dining, and live entertainment, along with community events. The surrounding Hood, Johnson, and Parker county countryside offers open space for rural outdoor pursuits, and the city's location on U.S. 377 puts the parks, trails, and cultural attractions of Fort Worth within an easy drive for larger recreational outings.
