DFW Mid-Cities Lake Community

About Lewisville, TX

Welcome to Lewisville, a Denton County Mid-City on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake, centrally located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Lewisville is a city in Denton County, Texas, with a portion extending into Dallas County, located on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake in the heart of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Its population was 111,822 at the 2020 census, making it one of the larger cities in Denton County and a key Mid-Cities community between Dallas and Fort Worth. Lewisville's growth has been defined by its location — at the junction of Interstate 35E and State Highway 121 — and by the lake that runs along its western edge. The city's roots reach back to the 19th century, when it grew as a stop along the railroad and a small agricultural center. Its modern form emerged in the latter 20th century, when the construction of the Lewisville Lake dam and the expansion of the metroplex transformed the area into a major suburban hub. The 1969 Texas International Pop Festival, held near the present lake site, is a notable footnote in the city's cultural history, briefly placing Lewisville on the national map just before the reservoir reshaped the landscape. Lake Lewisville is central to the city's identity. The reservoir covers more than 29,000 acres with over 230 miles of shoreline, making it one of North Texas's premier recreation lakes for boating, fishing, camping, and shoreline parks. The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area, a large natural research and recreation preserve, adds trails and wildlife habitat to the lake's recreational role. Lewisville Independent School District is one of the region's largest, serving Lewisville and much of southern Denton County. The city's combination of central location, lake access, and a wide range of housing makes it a practical choice for commuters and families working across the northern metroplex, from Dallas and Fort Worth to Frisco, Plano, and the Alliance corridor.

City Guide

About Lewisville

Real Estate & Housing

Lewisville's housing stock is broad and varied, reflecting decades of metroplex growth. The city holds a mix of established ranch-style and mid-century neighborhoods, newer subdivisions, and higher-end master-planned communities such as Castle Hills and Vista Ridge, which offer amenity-rich living with parks, trails, and community centers. Multifamily housing is also well represented, giving the city a balance of single-family and rental options across its ZIP codes. Lake-adjacent properties command particular interest, while the city's overall price point remains more approachable than some neighboring Denton County communities. The result is a market that serves first-time buyers, move-up families, and renters within a single, centrally located city.

Neighborhoods

Lewisville's neighborhoods span the city's full growth history. Castle Hills is a large, master-planned community on the city's eastern edge, known for its parks, trails, and community amenities, while Vista Ridge offers a newer, family-oriented setting with its own recreation facilities. Indian Oaks and Lewisville Valley are established neighborhoods representing the city's mid-century suburban expansion, with mature trees and traditional single-family homes. Areas near Lake Lewisville and the Lake Park corridor offer lake-oriented living and access to shoreline recreation. The Old Town district near the historic core preserves some of the city's earliest character, giving Lewisville a layered residential landscape from its 19th-century roots to its current suburban scale.

Lifestyle in Lewisville

Lewisville offers a suburban lifestyle with unusual regional convenience. Its location at the junction of Interstate 35E and State Highway 121 places residents within a roughly 40-minute drive of Dallas, Fort Worth, and the northern suburbs, while Lake Lewisville provides a built-in recreational backyard. The city's commercial corridors offer extensive retail and dining, and the nearby Vista Ridge and Castle Hills areas add newer, master-planned amenities. Community life is anchored by the school district, an active parks system, and signature events such as Western Days, the city's September festival. Lewisville draws a broad mix of families, young professionals, and commuters seeking a central DFW location, lake access, and a wide range of housing options.

Schools & Education

Lewisville is served by the Lewisville Independent School District, one of the largest districts in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The district covers all of Lewisville, The Colony, Highland Village, Double Oak, and Copper Canyon, plus portions of Flower Mound, Carrollton, Frisco, Plano, Argyle, Coppell, Grapevine, and Hebron. Its size gives families access to a wide range of programs, including career and technical pathways, dual-credit partnerships, and extensive extracurricular offerings. Because the district spans many communities, school assignments vary significantly by address, and families commonly confirm specific campus boundaries during a home search. Charter and private schools in the area add further educational options.

Getting Around

Lewisville's transportation strength is its position at the junction of Interstate 35E and State Highway 121, one of the most connected nodes in the northern metroplex. Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, and the Alliance and Denton corridors all lie within roughly 30 to 40 minutes in normal traffic, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is a short drive to the south. Denton County Transportation Authority provides commuter rail service via the A-train through the area, linking Lewisville to Denton and the DART light-rail system. The city's central location, combined with this highway and transit access, makes it a practical home base for commuters working across the DFW region.

Parks & Recreation

Lake Lewisville anchors recreation in the city, with more than 29,000 acres of water and 233 miles of shoreline supporting boating, fishing, water sports, camping, and lakeside parks. The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area, a large preserve on the lake's eastern shore, offers hiking, wildlife viewing, and environmental education. Lake Park provides picnic areas, athletic facilities, swimming beaches, and boat access, while The Cove at the Lakefront water park adds year-round family recreation. The city's parks system includes athletic complexes and neighborhood green space, and Western Days, the city's flagship September festival, draws the community together with music, food, and family events.
